Polynucleotides

What do Polynucleotides do?

Polynucleotides are skin-boosting injections – a bit like injectable moisture treatments, – but with some added oomph if you are looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and uneven skin tone. That’s because injecting them can boost collagen and elastin production, plus improve skin hydration.
 
Polynucleotides have gained a lot of attention because they’re made of fragments of DNA from salmon sperm (or trout sperm, depending on the brand) which, unlikely as it sounds, triggers the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid in human skin. More specifically, polynucleotides are injectable biostimulators, which means they work at a cellular level to kick-start the skin to rejuvenate itself.
 
Polynucleotides are anti-inflammatory, too, and are particularly good for treating dark circles around the eyes – an area where we’ve had to rely on dermal filler in the past.

Who can and can’t receive them

Polynucleotide injections are relatively safe. However they should be avoided if you are/have:

  • Pregnant
  • Breastfeeding
  • Under 18 years old
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Allergies - raise these prior to treatment

Consultation

In our consultation, we’ll discuss the benefits of Polynucleotide injections.

They are suitable treatment for eyes and the full face.

For the eyes and the face, it’s recommended that Polynucleotide injections are given three times, two to three weeks apart. For maintenance, subsequent injections can be received once, six to nine months thereafter.

Depending on the area, either a cannula or a needle may be used to administer the injection.

After treatment/Follow-Up

After treatment, the patient can expect mild swelling or raised bumps that will go down 48 hours.
